No 2025 edition of Resisprint
Already announced last year on the sidelines of the 2024 meeting, the cancellation of the 2025 edition is now official. Over the past few months, the organizing committee has reassessed the situation and attempted to meet the conditions required to stage the event, to no avail. The limited timeframe and the current state of the infrastructure are the main reasons for this decision.
Over the past few months, SEP Olympic La Chaux-de-Fonds, organizer of the event, in close collaboration with its institutional partners - the City of La Chaux-de-Fonds and Swiss Athletics - have been working hard to find solutions for organizing a 2025 edition. To date, it appears that the necessary conditions for staging an international athletics meeting under the right conditions have unfortunately not been met, due to the short timeframe and the current state of the infrastructure.
Aging infrastructure
Originally due to expire in 2024, the homologation of the Stade de la Charrière has been exceptionally extended by Swiss Athletics, subject to certain conditions. The main condition being the acceptance by the City of La Chaux-de-Fonds of the notice for the total refurbishment of the track and field infrastructure at the Centre sportif de la Charrière. This process, which has been underway for several years, is on schedule. The organizing committee does not wish to rush things, and is leaving the local authorities to move forward calmly. The priority remains to bring this project to a successful conclusion in the best possible conditions. As it stands, and without a complete overhaul, it is not possible to organize an event of this scale on the current infrastructure.
An uncertain future
SEP Olympic La Chaux-de-Fonds' main objective is to find a suitable track and field facility in which to continue its activities. The club has a long tradition of developing its youth movement, as well as training top athletes. The Resisprint will make a comeback in 2027 if the conditions are right for staging the international event. The quality of the synthetic surface, among other things, will be decisive in guaranteeing the event's future. The absence of the Chaux-de-Fonds meeting from the 2025 calendar will leave a void in the world of athletics. Organized every year since 1980, the Resisprint has been the scene of an accumulation of national and continental records. In 2024, the event finished 21st in the world meeting rankings, highlighted by Femke Bol's European record in the 400m hurdles.
